Snacks with Apache Cofounder Brain

Though I got late to the talk by Brain, due to the CG class. Padmaja madam gave us a change to have personal interracion with him during the press meet.

I, Anu, Sunil and Vamsee went with him to ITC kakatiya for this press meet. We were supposed to help the press people make sense out of his techie language, but the press ppl didn't wanted so. So we sat on a nearby table during their meet. Had those dark coffee, in which we all put almost 3/4 sugar packets that were available there.

Then after the meeting with press was over we sat with him and interacted regarding what versions etc we use, what kind of coding he does etc. We were the last ppl he was meeting before the returning so he gave us all his visting card and also took our Email ids. After he went, we ordered some Pizzas and S, which really sucked, compared to the price they were charging, You can really get much better than them at normal local resturants.

CVIT party!!!

It was a great saturday after long time. In the morning we(me and vidit) went to CMC to check networks end sem scripts. Some hiccups on regard to Bansi helping students. Later we started checking the objective part for Mtechs.

Had the lunch there itself, along with sir, who introduced us to some ppl there, the best part was that he said, "He was the only student from BTech to get an A in the subject," pretty inspiring sentence. After lunch we again sat for some time, finished the copies and then came back to IIIT.

Later in the evening, me Majji and Ranjith attended the ethics class (we had already signed a virtual pact to attend his class together and do lots of BC), but this time all of a sudden a new group including Nirnimesh, took the lead and sat on the first bench and did lots of BC, giving us a close competition. We take the challenge, let see next Friday.

Then there was this cool CVIT party, we went 7 in an auto to cyber pearls, Hitech city phase 2. The building is ok from outside, the first impressive thing was the filmi style glass entrance gate which opened automatically using those IR sensors.

In the party there was lots of BC, especially the introduction part and then the Dumb Cherades. I for the first time dared to enact the film, and lo it came out to be "the last Samurai", the movie that I closed after watching for 10 minutes. I gave all the indication about the movie, as far as I have seen it, but it took them lot of time to realize the movie. The overall party was nice.

In the night I watched the movie, "Along Came Polly," ok movie, 8/10.

totally Confused and frustated

The eight semester has begun 3 weeks ago, as in all other semester this time was spent in only deciding what course to take and what to drop etc. The previous semester grades C- in English Lit. C in Linear Algebra have been really dissappointment. Not that I was expecting A or A-, but when other humanities/Open Elective grades come out to be 70% A or A- and rest 30% B I can't do anything but curse my choice of courses.

The debate of what is important "Knowledge or CGPA", is quite useless now. It of-course has no simple conclusion, but one observation suffices, if you need good CGPA you interests may not be the best direction to follow.(Taken from our(me, Nir and Parry) argument to Dr. PJN regarding our Bad grades in useless(?) courses).

This semester I decided not to take up any TA ship, Wanted to spent time learning things for my thesis. The decision looks justified enuf. At present all the confusion is about what should me thesis be over. Also another reason of concern is taking this Computational Geometry Course. Another big issue is the coming up Simla trip, still not talked to father in this regard, he phone seems out of order.

Work is not coming up well in my project on Mosaicing too. Did not decide yet which algorithm to implement.

This confusion is really eating my head. I am frustated.

Journey to home for Diwali

This time I had a very nice time during the vacations. After 4 years (3 in IIIT and 1 in Bansal) I went home for celebrating Diwali. Actually It was not our house in Jabalpur where we celebrated the festival but rather my fathers' house in Sirmor.

The journey to home started in mixed mode. We got delayed while leaving as I was writing CD of songs. Abhinav and Bapu were pretty angry and somehow they got auto from somewhere by the time I reached the bus stop looking for them. We left the bus stop by around 9:40 PM and at 10:10 when we were assuming that we are near station the fellow told that he forgot the way to station, somehow he managed to reach the station by 10:25. We were able to catch the train. I lost the bet that train will not leave b4 9:40 as the train left at 9:36 itself. :)

The next thing to happen was this TT coming and Darbari volunteering that he doesn't have a full ticket. It was kind of weird, I have never seen this before, for a minute it looked he did a good thing, before we were told that he has to pay 140+250 Rs, the later amount being the fine. :) Darbari's Senti didn't work ! The person said he was a squad and it was not easy(?) to bribe him. :):):) After Darbari paid the amount the fellow who had similar situation came back and told Darbari that he escaped, laughing at Darbaris' senti, we could not stop laughing at what happened :):)

The journey was fine, there was this girl who is working in satyam Hyd, on our own compartment, she came quite helpful in my journey from JBP to Satna when I only had a general ticket and was already worried about TT's fine and stuff. Met 'mummy', 'didi' and Rishab at JBP station. They also didn't have reservation :(, so finally we kept the luggage in my compartment, where I have already asked the girl to take care in case I have to rush here and there when the TT comes. They had lot of laggage too. Fortunately the jouney was over without TT coming, but I had lost one of my slippers and was struggling to find it.

All the people were very helping and I was able to find the slipper at the end. Meanwhile my family member in the trained joined me. Later then told that "ppl in the general boggie didn't allow them to board there" so boaded on S2 and came to S5 from there. I can imagine that must be pretty hard. (I remember how we were stopping people from moving in and out of the boggie including the 'pheriwalas', specially the telugu fellow). The scenes were all funny. We knew TT won't be able to make through too.

At Sirmour during Vacations

-After finishing the train journey we visited a jain temple at satna before moving to sirmour. The road journey to Sirmour took 4 hours. The road was typically MP 'dehati' road. Even with all the tiring journey it was difficult to sleep or even dose in the jeep.

The Quarter is a nice one. I should rather call it a Bangalow, there was two gaurds to escort us(?).

The more intersting part was the interiors. The house had around 5-6 big rooms, and they were all very well conected by doors so it was quite confussing too. Papas' room had a TV with around 7-8 channels, which we watched for long time though we were tired.

The next day was Diwali, somehow the time passed easily and in the evening we had some guests coming to house. (They were made to join us in prayer :), the funny part is that we don't possibly pray like other Hindus we pray Lord Mahavir).

It was a really cool time, no tension of anything. just enjoying each and every movement, I had almost forgot such a celebration of Diwali when so many guests will come to home for celebrating Diwali. Nehil had already started bursting some crackers outside and I did join him. We had planned a trip next morning to the falls so we slept quite early 1 AM. :)

The next day 13 Nov, was one of the most well spent day, we went to see this fall named, purva fall (IIRC), the falls have really nice scenic beauty and I again missed my camera there. Then we went to the powerhouse. This was not a first visit to powerhouse so it was nothing great there except that close look to turbine, which I am sure not many are allowed to have. I remember the old Sarni days when we used to go to plant with papa, same big machines, similar noises, similar meters etc. new thing was my brother being with me and we both enjoyed a lot. The specially interesting part was the near cannal part where from the water went in to the powerhouse. There are two zones from which water rushes inside in high speed. We all threw some small things like thermocole and plastics in to it to see them plunge in to water with speed. This trip enjoyed overshaded the pains of travelling on road in that area. The non road part is much more prefered than the road. I was wondering how a car would survive so much bumps and also how the jeeps did survive them. In the evening we went to some ppls house for eating sweets :) Amoung the memorable ppl in this trip are that small fellow named 'manu', very notorious but neverthless cute also.

14 Nov, we went to see off mummy and didi for Jabalpur. We had to travel thru that sucking road to Riva, we meet some of fathers' old friends and then went to station. Evening was spent in Mittal Uncles' house. In the night we returned to Sirmor again throught that same road (I wish some Politician see this blog and thing of changing the road condition).

15 was spent just watching TV and then we 16 morning we left from Sirmar to Satna through a jeep. Allthought we wanted to reach Satna ASAP the driver couldn't refrain from keeping more and more savari getting us more and more delayed, he really frustated me beyound limits when at Riva he started loading some computer peripherals where he spent 15-20 minutes even after already been late. Me and Nehil were very angry and frustated. Somehow we reached the station at 6:30 PM(when we were supposed to reach at 6 PM), fortunately the train was late. This journey was spent without much problems though we couldn't get a sleeper ticket we stayed in sleeper class, the ppl were not friendly enuf to give us a seat so we spent time standing and then finally sitting on floor. Things were going fine until at katni where some police along with TT came in and really freaked me out. We could escape giving them 100/- Rs bribe. There was no question of whether bribing is good or bad, we wanted to escape as cheaply as possible. We reached the JBP station at around 10 PM then travelled to home on an auto. without much bargain paying him 40 bucks. At 10:30 PM we were home... I called up Dixit for registration but he was not in his room. So registration didn't happen.

DDLJ revisited...

While coming back after seeing "Before Sunrise" Avinash was telling me about DDLJ, I was astonished I had completely forgotten the movie, I got a thought whether I have seen this movie or not?

So I revised this movie, which i realized only at the middle of the movie. I didn't remember any fine details of how Shahrukh meet Kajol their Europe trip etc. and that was a major part of the film. So it was completely worth revising this movie. I did enjoy the rewatch so much that I wanted to write a permanent copy of this film on a CD.

This is one of the only movies which I had intentionally rewatched, another one being The Extra Terristial.

100% Exams over...Having some nice time now

Exams just got over today with PM's exams going well(I think so). This time I had sufficient time to read through all the questions and then too finish the exam 1/2 hr before time, as I was desperate for peeing, I gave the paper without even revisiting a single question, at 5 PM it was all over.(Kamal Sir declared in his mail that "You won't be allowed to go to toilets, so prepare for it", and I did prepare, but it was nature's call.

Yesterday night had this bad dream of someone coming and saying "well you too had poor attendence in LA, You didn't pass", and me not badly surprized was just cursing the day I took that course instead of IT for power.

I got some new novels from Library in return of the old books that I had, I have one from Jayaram and one from Anand making the count 4, well that should be enough for the train journey 8 days and return journey. After all I am going to have some rest after this nasty semester. ( will summarize it all in next post)

I slept 3 hrs after getting the book so was sure to be active in the night, Searched some movies and finally decided to see Lion King, and then Before Sunrise. The former was a ok movie may be good for Children, but the later was an awsome movie, a must see. I won't describe it more than saying that it told me about a lots of things you can talk about to your friends about yourself about them, something I was failed to figure out.

4 days away from home ...

I am going to be in home after 4 days. I am very glad to imagine that, after having one big semester with lot of troubles and memories too. I will recall these after my last exam tomorrow is over.
Yep, Tomorrow I have Project Management exam and I am not studying for it. Not at least seriously, last exam was a total cyclogical test. So I decided to rather let this one go. As I already said that I screwd up my PR exam to some extent so that also is the excuse for not studying well.
It is not out of place to mention here that I watched another movie tonight, "Requime for a Dream", IIRC. Nice movie, I would rather have loved to recomment it to be seen it by any high school student, had it not had some bad scenes.

I have a list of things to be done before going home, but that is there in my Room PCs HDD which is currently offline :(.

75% of exams Over

Today the Main Exam PR was over. The paper was good in the sense all the questions looked solvable but the time lacked as I spent much of it in thinking etc.

Thank God I did that SVM derivation properly today morning, in the last 1/2 hr, I must say the most efficient 1/2 hr of the whole preparation time.

I expect around 70+ in this exam. And the overall grade will be A- or B or lower depending on the project.

Watched some movie in the night, "The Grudge", The horror movie. It sucked.

Saw Some movies

I saw "Life Is beautiful" in Ramneek's room today, My PC is currently out of order the suspected problem is SMPS, I leave it all to the Bhumika guy to check. Presently I am busy preparing for exams.:)

The movie is nice and the cool thing about the movie was it did not have any non children seen but then to conveyed some of the most complex attrocities done by Nazis at the same time as it showed a good love story.

The second Movie I saw in the lab "The Grude" is one of the worst english movies I have seen in my life.

50 % exam over...

Today the English literature exam was over. I spent around 2 1/2 days with that story writing stuff, with some help from Ramneek, Majji, Sreejith etc I was able to find a convergent end to the story.
Though the end is still not very smooth, and comes all of a sudden, but it looks more realistic. The final title was "When Failure became blessing".

The exam was also ok only. Hope I may get around C/C-.

25% exams over

It was a bad bad exam of LA. This time the exam itself was bad, forget about the expected marks. till now I have 28/60 and I think 12 should be sufficient to pass, but again, everything is uncertain.

When I got the paper and saw some questions, I knew this exam was gone...Most of the questions were theoretical and the questions from matrices which was bound to be numerical was not printed properly. So the first half hour was spent just waiting for the matric questions to be corrected. After the corrections came I started the paper.

And rest is past, I am just praying to pass comfortably in the exam... lets see what happens.

Its already 25% of exams over.

Exams Approaching...

Today I Realized that exams were just ahead of us. We will have the exams starting LA exam on 2 Nov, Some small stuff in English on 4th and then PR on 6 Nov.

We do have one more exam for Project Management on 8th Nov. But with what happened in previous exam I am not much interested in studing the book again, the exam was like the phycometric(forget the spelling) test which is one of the unique feature of TCS recruitment.
On the other hand I Topped the exam too. (Today only we got mail from Kirti). My faith on doing less but better is again strengthened.

In English I am second lowest in the class with at total of 27 approx of 50 and then I have choosen to compose a creative story instead of exam. The story is to be finished by 31 Oct.(both deadline and LA exam) and I haven't started yet.

Still not able to realize which was the biggest mistake of the semester( had similar problem last sem too when I was confused between Compilers, Software Engineering, Building Automation and Vision). This year the candidates are English Lit, English Lit, English Lit, English Lit. (As of now, they do change when exams approach or when grades approach, for e.g I was thinking of PM in this race but dropped it due to todays mail from kirti).

More experience as Teaching Assistant

I had another bad time checking some copies tonight. Thought of completing them by 1 AM and when I completed it was already 3:10 AM. But still what I learnt should be documented.
One thing i realized again was that checking copies and all suck. It is always better to take up Tutorials rather than taking up assignment correction or script checking. You do learn in both cases but you learn more solid in equal time in when you take classes. Script checking also helps you to think of some common misunderstanding of the students which you may correct in tutorials.

Some tips for getting better marks/consideration
1) Don't write uselessly big explainations when short one makes complete sense
2) the More useless stuff you put in more mistakes you might make
3) writing in points always help. Even if you are not sure about exact details the making of points with highlighting main substance may get you more marks. As the probability of "checker" giving more marks on highlight is higher than him reading a fishy explaination in one big paragraph.
4) Do read the answer once after writing to make sure what you wrote is what you thought you were writing. Most of time while writting many things come in our mind and we may miss thing like NOT which are very important.
5) Bad writting if you don't know will only get you marks more cut due to bad impression of your knowledge and willingness to answer.
6) If you don't know anything better don't guess it and write. Guessing is fine when you are just missing some links, but creating a whole new algorithm or language is a bad idea.
7) Try to remember that things like "stuff", "pc" etc should not be used. you can replace them with more specific jargon say "host" or "node" etc. You can never say a user as a "guy". for e.g in Aloha explaination,
whenever a guy sitting at any pc wants to send some data and stuff ....

Lots of Holidays and Fun

Dushera this year brought some real good time to enjoy. On wednessday I was happy to learn that the Thurdays is off and I already knew Friday was off. So making it two days Holiday. Friday being off is a great thing since its the most hectic day this semester.
On Friday i.e today I got a mail from pramati that Saturdays class is also off, remembering that PM classes are over. This Saturday is also a holiday.

Meanwhile we visited "Our Place" on Thurday evening, its a nicely designed Resturant I must say. Some great things to remember would be the prompting of the waiter to take salad. (Forced me to order a 40 bucks onion salad). The wonderful brinjal cury that accompanied Veg Biryani was also rememberable specialy due to the fact that they considered this 'complementary' vegetable very nice or whatever. While coming back somehow we split in to two groups and I can only hope that the second group didn't face any troubles coming back to IIIT, after loosing track in Mehdipatnam.

It looks a long time since I blogged last. I have been watching quite some movies, Today I watched "Dawn of the Ghost", Yesterday IIRC i watched "Any Given Sunday". Already underway is revision of Friends season 1.

On to work, I just finished checking my part of Networks Midsem 2 scripts. I have to speed up some correction work in Middleware and Networks. On MS Proj Bluetooth program seems to move a bit more o emulator but on device it still says "System Error". PR project is still under trouble as the one Loutas looks like only promising and what if it fails. Other option is to see implementation of CMU Face Tracking, we will see after discussion with PJN sir, tomorow. Me and Pelu are already working over some other good project Idea for .... Letme keep it closed for now.

End Semester Dates released

End Sem dates are released, me going home on 10 Nov. with Sachin. (more below)

We finally start the Computer Networks Mid sem script checking. My estimate is around 1.5 minutes per question taking me around 4 for the three I check, and overall requiring 120*4 minutes. Roughly 8 hrs !!!
I hope not all have written as much as the first few I have seen till now.

Middleware seems going ok. Most if not all have made some progress atleast they have made simple bank without Timer and MDB stuff. Let see what Ramesh says tomorrow.

Today I did the PR assignment (this is offcourse very late and Ranjith my deny accepting it, based on remarks about me from his Junior friends :)), but any way I had to learn SVM so I did the assignment too. This exercise also helped me learn some new commands of OCTAVE and gnuplot

First of all I learnt solving equation in octave
its simple basically. define A=[ something ];
B=[something2];
And say D=A\B to solve the equation AD=B
really very simple.
Also in Gnuplot to set ranges use
set xrange [-1 to 1 ]
set yrange [-1 to 1 ]
Also setting grid & surface
set grid
set surface
Here is a good link for OCTAVE.
http://www2.math.uic.edu/~hanson/Octave/OctaveLinearAlgebra.html Link
Ahh Shouldn't forget this, We went to Indranagar today to withdraw some money from ATM, basically I joined Ayan and Shantalu who were going there for some purpose. We ate in the new sweet shop. The quality is good. Specially the Samosa is nice. Also all kinds of sweet are available. We also bought Nutties and some lolly-pops while coming back. Since I had to get my ticket reserved I came early so that the reservation fellow doesn't run away, thanks to the STD booth fellow who brought me on his LUNA.
Finally I have given him money for ticket lets see what happens.

Computer Vision Project ...

As we were required to Demo sthg in our CV project, We finally demonstrated some work to sir, We already knew that the work was not up to mark and we will surely have some bad time giving the demo. But Sir took it quite lightly, thank God (or Sir ??. We are supposed to submit the final report by Tomorrow.

In Linear Algebra there is some improvement but not as much as was desired( and also possible), got 60% marks this time. Did a gross mistake in a question which made me loose 5 marks completely, as we already knew there is no partial marking :(

PR exam was thankfully postponed to Next Monday i.e 18 Oct. Also have to submit some assignments to Ranjith. No progress on bluetooth project.

LA Midsem exam gone OK

LA midterm 2 is gone ok, I mean better than last exam, but the marks are not a linear function of attempts so I can't make any claims, Anything around 10/25 is too Good in this course (atleast from my last exams experience where I attempted 22/30 and got 10).

Took networks class today over Networking commands in LINUX, It was not a good one, basically the topics taught were pretty simple and I was feeling like I am wasting time of some ppl. Next class onwards will cover some tough material. TCP is started and that is where good stuff is.
I don't know how many ppl enjoyed the presentation by Phani which was a good one, I feel. Some topics for discussion are taken up by some ppl. I will try to bring presentation down to 15 minutes from next class.

Else where some great amount of work is lying ahead with a mail from Prof. Jawahar saying the Project to be submitted by Thurday. Nitin U there ???

Long time no bloging, Lots of work ahead.

This weekend was one of the best ever, Enjoyed a lot on Friday evening and Saturday evening. And finally slept a lot on Saturday Night.
The musical night was a good show. All performance were nice but most special thing was the Kalyan's Intrumental and the Rock Band of IIIT's rock performance. As usual I have some photographs will I will upload here sometime later.

Today I tried some new Firefox plugins, special one is a improved Quicknote and DownThemAll. I should also target making my desired pluggin soon, by seeing these pluggins I can guess that most users have almost same needs. :)

There is not much progress on any other grounds. The Bluetooth stuff is almost struck up. On the other hand I have some thing to boost off. I have already started answering queries on forum.nokia. Good for me :)
Now this Linear Algebra exam and then PR exam, have come in next week only.
Tutorials also have not been taken from long time, but anyways they are scheduled on 5 Oct and 6 Oct, and will probably be taken by Bansal. Answer scripts and other assignment checking is also pending.

In Middleware, have to speed up the project working. Have to check assignment 4,5,6 and also two test scripts.

Visited the Jain temple

On the occassion of ending day of Jains' festival of "paryushan" we went to the temple at Aagapura (IIRC). The group included Abhay, Arpit, Rishab, Chaitanya and me. We took some photographs also.

The temple is a good/big one, with lots of pratimas, we were all excited by the idea of going to temple once in so long time. So the trip was more enjoyable. We also got addresses of other Jain temples in Hyderabad so we will think of visiting them soon.

Linear Algebra class test 2

It was again a sorrowful event for me, this time it was the worst ever as I had not ever clear understanding of the topics that were prerequisit for understanding the questions. I seriously think that sir will get annoyed by the crap that I have written.

Yesterday I got interested in reading the EJB pdf by Nova, Which looks to be a very good book to me, kept cutting time for the test and finally got screwed up today. Another great cause of disturbance was not being able to talk to any family member on phone.

Today we will have some discussion on our PR project.

Also I will give some project proposals to the PG guys for the ITWS1a course. Let see what turns up!!!

Finally for first app running on Symbian OS

Thanks to all fellows at the forum.nokia.com who have helped me a lot with all their answers specially sopta007 and symbianyucca.

I learnt some new things in all this exercise.
0) You need to change the target build through Project->Options, incase you want to make a deployable file for the hardware use the option armib release. For emulator Winsb options are used. You now need to make, it will do the processing then, like creating various intermediate and target files.
1) Basically a .aif file is needed by a application to show up on the main application menu in Symbian OS.
2) Since the software aif builder failed in creating all of the components( with the wierd error mesg "cpp.exe has terminated with error code 2" ), I manually created the AIF file for my project by copying format from an example.
3) Anyway the tool was good help for creating the .rss file in the directory which I set as output for the aif generation.
4) Some data that need to be given in AIF builder is the application UID which is the uid that tool provides in the .mmp file in the line.
UID 0x100039CE 0x101F5462
Now on I will use Red to mean something that is changed/need to be changed by me/programmer.
5) I have created a AIFdirectory in same level as Group, in this directory basically I copied the RSS file available in another application, it looked like this on after making the changes I named it CamTimerAIF.rss (used later).

#include

RESOURCE AIF_DATA
{
app_uid = 0x101F5462;
caption_list=
{
CAPTION
{
code = ELangEnglish;
caption = "CamTimer";
}
};
num_icons = 1;
embeddability=KAppNotEmbeddable;
newfile=KAppDoesNotSupportNewFile;
}

// End of File

Most probably the colored things are the one that you might need to change based on you application.
6) Note that the MMP file contains some information like

// Creates Mbm file.
START BITMAP CamTimer.mbm
HEADER
TARGETPATH \system\apps\CamTimer
SOURCEPATH ..\aif
SOURCE C12 CamTimer.bmp
END

AIF CamTimer.aif ..\aif CamTimerAif.rss c12 camTimer.bmp camTimer_mask.bmp

I have mostly modified data from an example to my needs, will diagonse more later on what things might mean here.
7) For this AIF directory had the fiels camtimer.bmp and camtimer_mask.bmp copied from the directory which contained the output of the NOKIA SDK tool used for creating image.
8) The PKG file looked like this at the end of the exercise.

; targetapp (CamTimer)
; target directory \Symbian\Series60_1_2_B\epoc32\release\armi\urel; Header
#{"CamTimer"},(0x101F5462),1,0,0,TYPE=SISAPP

;Supports Series 60 v 0.9
;This line indicates that this installation is for the Series 60 platform v0.9
;This line must appear _exactly_ as shown below in the sis file
;If this line is missing or incorrect, the sis file will not be able
;to be installed on Series 60 v0.9 platforms
(0x101F6F87), 0, 0, 0, {"Series60ProductID"}

; mmpfile: camtimer.mmp
; targets
; target: CamTimer.app
"\Symbian\Series60_1_2_B\epoc32\release\armi\urel\CamTimer.app"-"!:\system\apps\CamTimer\CamTimer.app"
; resources
; resource: ..\src\camtimer.rss
"\Symbian\Series60_1_2_B\epoc32\release\armi\urel\camtimer.rsc"-"!:\system\apps\CamTimer\camtimer.rsc"
; bitmaps
; bitmaps: CamTimer.mbm
"\Symbian\Series60_1_2_B\epoc32\release\armi\urel\CamTimer.mbm"-"!:\system\apps\CamTimer\CamTimer.mbm"
; languages
; aif files

the tool Borland C++ Builder 6, with mobile produced automatically.

Finally you use the option Project->Make a Symbian Installation System. to get the sis made. In case the tool ask you to overwrite the pkg file in most cases you can allow it to do it, I make the pkg file with the information provided in the mmp files. In my case the final pkg generated by the tool contained information about the mmp file and aif file automatically, that is quite good I will say.

PR Exams and Some mishaps

Really had a very time imagining about how much I will have to pay for the USB device (dongle) that I lost during the B'day Celebration of Amal Raj.
Spoil quite some time yesterday searching for it, ignoring the scarcity of time we had for our PR exam. There were already many mails on the mailing list regarding postponement of the Exam. Except for 2 ppl most were desperate for some extention at the least.

Finally in the class today sir postponed it for indefinite time. It will be only after LA test on 5 Oct. Also the great thing that happened today was getting back the USB dongle (It fell on the floor of the roof).

We have opted for the project of "Tracking of Face in a Video". My Team members are Jagmohan and Sandeep. Finally Jagmohan agreed on doing face recognition project after sir discussed about this in the class.

Yesterday We submitted the name of the 50 students and 3 faculty members to IBM Linux Campus Club stuff.

That all, running for the Systems Thinking class now. I plan to do some assignment and paper correction of Middleware and Networks in the free time tomorrow as We won't be by any change going to LINDEC.

Celebrations on 'Vinayaka Chaturthi'

Let me know if the spelling of the festival is wrong. I actually woke up late due as I slept very late, watching some videos. I was not willing to get ready for the Puja so I did not wake up at time.

Chandana and me were discussing PR assignment in my room when Dixit brought us the prasad. The day went on cool with almost no work till 3PM when I went to CVIT. At 4:30 me and Jagan went to Indranagar for Samosas as Jagan denied bringing them for me. We brought them for Anu, Tarun and Sashi. Just one day after mail from PJN sir regarding working in CVIT lab, I have taken pictures of some one eating and watching movie in the CVIT :)

In the evening we had Kabaddi game. It was a nice game overall, though some confussions did occur and some dicisions looked harsh to either teams. Finally Vayu won the close match by 4 points 21-17, IIRC.
Good show of game by my teammates Gopal, Mehta, Siddhart, Valecha, Shantalu and Kesav, offcourse I played the best, kidding. The second match ended up in bad way with both the teams literally fighting with each other.

In the night we watched the movie "Mujshe Shadi Karogi", courtsey our new cultural council, specially PP and Tarun Nayak. The movie was overall a good one.

Forgot to write about this wonderfull concept of Random Numbers' unrandomness which I came to know from Numerical recipies.

Networks 2nd Tutorial

Finally I decided to take 3 slots, It looked better and more manageable. The topic was "Network Setups in General", with specific reference to to IIIT.

Delved in to some details of local addressing, security, proxy, DNS etc etc. I did not get much immediate feedback but most ppl seemed to understand most of it :). Some ppl were off-course sleeping, Even I sleep sometimes in the class so I could imagine their situation. Attendence as far as I believe should not be compulsary at all, ppl shud come only if they are interested, if they are not even I shouldn't bother much.

Any feedback is most welcome.
(I shifted to blogger only for providing me this comments stuff :) )

Rest is going ok. PR assignment is to be started tomorrow. Have some basic idea and also the matrix library ready, will again bug our tutor ranjith for details.

This weekend should be cool with saturday being free.

Project Management Midsem

After lot of rescheduling the exam happened on Tuesday only. Tarun and Darbari got the book from Mehdipatnam on Monday evening. Somehow finished the topics covered in the class.

The exam was a altogether new experience. A real torture. There was 100 question all mostly cyclogical I must say. I really felt the difficulties some PM would face, but just reading the questions. No practicles needed now.

Celebrations of Anubhav's B'day

--Met Prof PJN after long time, I have still not choosen area of MS thesis. Present work continues to be seaching for ways of making mobile phone more usefull, using CV and IP methods.

--We did finish some work on Systems thinking's Mid sem, I mean the presentation of the National Problem "POVERTY".

--In the evening we went for dinner outside as we were going to have celebration for Anu's B'day in the night. The Cake read "Happy 9/11 to R. anubhav", Details not be disclosed. Photo I will try to upload soon. The dinner was at 4 Seasons after we got much delayed in the book photocopy bussiness and could not think of going to Angethi(??). The food was good. The bill was enormously huge, came to some 160/- Per Head.
We finished it by 11:30 or so and then came out, searching for autos, seven seaters, Finally got one Auto but couldn't reach on time, we reached the hostel by 00:10 AM.

-- The celebrations went well, obviously we cud not have beaten him more. His photo would be posted here too.

-- ANOTHER SHOCK today Exam of PM is scheduled on Tuesday. I am already lagging behind in LA and PR, and new things are coming not allowing me to do anything. Anyways I will watch a movie now.

Thinks Getting Tougher this semester.

--SHOCK OF THE DAY. We will have mid terms in Project Management.

- Got back some feedback from Computer Networks students. Basic suggestion is to have a lower strenght, slow pace and more praticle approach. This might be just good enuf for next class, anyway I will give them some lecture about the importance of Feedback now, after hearing that the first class was bouncing

-- Checked middleware assignment. Only some PG fellows did the most important part of making codebase work. That was the most important functionality that might take some time to be implemented, everything else is as it is available on the Sun's Site.
A good link for Codebase is
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/rmi/codebase.html
Link
-- Tomorrow(??) we need to finish our System thinking work. Also I have to wake up early for Swiming pool, And then The LINEAR ALGEBRA class which seems to be real GPA decreaser for this semester. After missing just one class I have 74% attendence due to this add/drop delay funda. Notwithstanding is the excellent performance in the first test, where I got 10/25(sighs). Then PR class, again I am very badly out of context in all these subjects (need to put in some extra effort).

_Evening We have a talk by Pramati CEO, hope to write something speacial here for that too.

--Tomorrow We have some new assignment for Networks coming, I mean I have to be involved in checking it :).

Orkut really coming to good use

In search of Old friends from various schools (8 in number) and Bansal Classes KOTA. I am able to find Ankur Badola, a guy who proved himself chuppa rustam by capturing 108 rank in IIT JEE in first attempt (when all of us were nowhere in the list).

The other day I found another inspiring profile of Mr Shubham Jain at orkut searching for Shubham Jain from Bansal Classes Kota, This fellow has very recently opened his own company savnetworks with the help of IIT KGP.

Took first class of Computers Networks

Tonight I took the first class of Computer Networks, the topics covered were Multiple Access Protocols and general doubt clarification. The classes seem to have gone ok. First the class was for UG3 and then for PG2.

I realize that the smaller class size helps. The second batch was lot more attentive and I could easily interact with more people.

I would be looking for some feedback on the class. If you were present in the class you can just give feedback, even anonymous ones will be most welcome.

This class clashed with the checking of the Middleware assignment. Which anyway students haven't done. :)

thinking about Linux Challenge from IBM & LUG's New Focus

Visesh, Me, Majji and Vamsee(Oh!!! Didnot notice before that we all have names starting with V) are thinking about the IBM linux Challenge, if not this year lets get started for getting something by next year. We have been assured of help from Mr. Atul Negi of Hyderabad Central University. Our basic interest is to atleast learn some of the best parts of the Masterpeice (Linux) developed by the greatest hackers around the world.

Our LUG which is soon going to handed over to our Juniors will soon have a new direction. we have already been of quite greate help to programmers (At least I feel so.), we now want to include the idea of knowledge gaining and sharing over Kernel Internals and Deeper Implementation Issues.

What do we gain out of It??? Well we are just students and presently our Aim is to learn, the benefits will come out when we have learnt properly. We can directly see money over doing silly projects (sometimes internships too), in various places, but at the end we have only some money and nothing else. Lets have a broad view and then we can always apply our intelligence to narrow implemenation issues, is what I feel. I have personally earned quite some money in my 3 years of college education, but I really feel, If I would have done something more towards learning(than earning) it would have been better.

One new suggestion given by Sunil Mohan Ranta is to get started with trimming down a linux Distro, to make it good enuf for low end hardware(basically customizing it our needs), present in some of the places in our Campus. I really think this is a great Idea, it might be of help to outsiders too.

Found an inspiring profile at Orkut

I happen to see the profile of Ms Saili P today. It was really surprizing that she has opened a Eco-loving portal with her friends at almost same age as mine. I think it would be a great learning and encouraging experience to be friend with her.

Looked back at the Mobile program, some how the testing is not working, I have to make it quick.

In the night I read the Java RMI turorial from Jguru, It is a very nice an ellabourate one I give it a link http://http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/rmi/RMI.html Link

Linear Algebra Test Over.

Not as bad as expected. My state of health seems to have some improvement now.

Watched the movie "Pirates of the Silicon Valley", Nice movie, shows a good coverage of how some of the best(??) companies in the software industry grew up by pirating stuff from others. The worse thing was Bill copying Mac and Releasing Windows before Mac was out. Bill really Sucks.

Had a long discussion with Anil over Middleware project. I got bit angry for a while in between when he was not agreeing to me, I dunno if he has accepted the sorry, but I really Am. I am trying to get control over my TEMPER, my biggest bug as of now.

Rakhi

Finally got a mail from sister, after knowing that she has sent a Speed Post on 25 Aug., I went to ask if they were mixed with the courier and "Discovered" that they were handled by the Office. Prabha madam was on phone, so when I asked him, she, I donot know in which sense asked my name and said no. But then dixit asked her for his speed post and I discovered that mine was there!!!!

This has been a wonderful day after that. With the system thinking class ending without much usefull work. My state of not being well (as against well being) continued, and I spoilt the complete day without studying anything. Went to doctor and got some medicine. Some relief seems to be there but not much.

On the other side work is accumulating. Linux Users Group Admin and Mods have to be selected we have to then think of sponsership for our T-shirt/Jacqet. Meanwhile I got a mail invitation for Linux Desktop Conference to be held on 25 Sept., which unfortunately happens to be my PR exam day.

In other news I got a courier from Fedora Community with a pack of 8 CDs of Fedora Core 2.

Clarified about checking of networks assignment with Mr Rawat.

Thats all for today. Let me get well then I will be more efficient in writting blogs. :)

On Birthday of Linux 25th August.

It has been long been in my mind to have Linux T-shirts for our LUG. On the occasion of the Linux B'day, We gave invitation for 3rd year students to come forward to take our LUG admin posts. By tomorrow, I plan to annouce the LUG admin. It will be the first duty of the new Admin to take care of this bussiness.

I have already stopped attending the EIS classes now and I am comtemplating dropping one course.

English course already seems to be trouble, with sir declaring that he was unhappy with our behaviour and will not continue the course.

Watched "Girl Next Door"

Nice movie. Rating 9/10. On Bedi's suggestion I watched this movie. Thanks Bedi.

What I liked and may be interpreted as a message.
1) The guy was completely taken away by this girls beauty.
2) He spoilt his career for her, without knowing what she would mean to her.
3) Spoilt his career (almost, it never actually happens to Heros), thinking of her all the time.
4) Did not knew about the producer with this girl but did trust him and finally got cheated by him.

Nice lecture by Professor Nori

Today we had another thought provoking lecture by Professor Nori. I would try to summarize the lecture which was not a thing someone could have missed. I say this more and more because I feel the way he speaks with all experience in his life, anyone would be inspired.

1) We Indians have developed this habit of working under someone, We have been doing it so long and so succesfully that we often miss the chance to see, that we can be technology creators too, Rather than always being a follower.
2) Technology creation gives someone a lead which is not otherwise possible by just immitating the technology, he gave the idea of PDA11's immitation that was tried in India and which failed. The product failed because they had only very limited knowledge of the Architecture, which was sufficient to emulate the current one, but what would they do when the newer version comes out.
3) The reason for Americas Economic sucess is the small time they take in coverting an idea of R&D in to product. In India we have very seldom people trying for R&D and people want to be safe with just doing service as it gives instant result, R&D requires repeated attempts before tasting any success.
4) We need to think broad and before that realize that we can do so. He gave the exam of JAVA's architecture creation wrt to creation of something similar for Banks. Something like a specific computer which is specialized for banks.
5) He disked about the book "Discipline of Programming" by Diakstra , in which he discusses the GCM problem and gives a sulution rather gives his approach towards the problem. He said you may think as why he must have choosen this approach, you may also try to think of some other suggestion.
I will try to add more points to this later. You can also post your coment about this .

Second Day at pool. Morning slot.

Today we went to swiming pool in the morning. It was a cool experience, now onwards we plan to be there in the morning only.

I have finished the novel "Importance of being Earnest", and the movie "Run away bride" and also "Kyo Ho gaya na". RAB was just ok but KHGN was nice, with some element of comedy and some drama.

I plan to do some study on Networking before taking the tutorials for juniors probably next week.

PR test is over. Joined Swiming pool

PR test went well. It was good compareable to what I would have expected. Now I have some serious things to do.
1) Go through the current work done by various people in the field of PR/Vision/Graphics
2) Put a good slot for reading of english novels
3) Also take out the morning 1 hr slot for swiming pool. Well this is something I would write more about.

It was our first day in swiming pool, me and nirnimesh went to the pool with manjeet who has already registered there, after some time we were in the pool. It was one of my dreams to be given a chance to swim in this pool. I had seen the swiming pool filled with action during the AAG' 03. I remember how we introduced ourselves as photographers and went in-side, Nice momeroies, together with me were Ravi (chandra and shankar). That day we took lot of Photographs. I will put them in the site after some time.

LA test & comtemplating buying a mobile phone again

I am forced to think about buying a cellphone seeing the long queues on the phone booth, Not being able to call at 9:30PM I have to come all the way from lab to NBH for calling up home and here the shopkeper is in hurry to close the shop and run to his home. Finally I could not call home today, OBH booth being close.

Meanwhile I have started getting the French world list from the lyrics of Alizee's songs and google translation tool. My first phrase would be 'Je comme Alizee', Meaning I like Alizee.
I got to ask how to type some of those weird characters that are not present in English Keyboard, like the one in word 'arretez' , over a.

TA ship is still undecided. Most probably It will be 1/4 in CN and 1/4 in Middleware.

Have a Linear Algebra Exam on 17 August, Wish me luck!!!!

Confirmed about Networks TAship

I dared to ask Jawahar sir, about the Middleware TAship and he told me that I am "Networks" TA. This starts a new sequence of things. He asked me to send him a mail about the Middleware TA ship.

I and sachin composed a mail to sir to allow us 1/2 TA ship each in Middleware Course.

Meanwhile Mr Ramesh is very agressive in sending assignments. He has already delivered the second assignment which is due 13 August, 2004. The assignment is very tough to start with. And ppl are expecting me to take a class and let them know what to do though everything is already taught in the class, all this is aimed at just postponing the assignment. :)

I target to finish the Novel "Timeline" by today.

Finally Moved Here

I have to finally move here. Realized that it was too tuf to make my simple XML based blog show even 1% of what the available once are showing.

I mark my old blog http://students.iiit.ac.in/~vardhman/homepage/blogs/ as obselete.

Today also passes by, Yeaterday night I was in CVIT reading about Symbian OS progamming. Then read the novel Timeline. As usual I and Jagga again had a long discussion on various companies including M$, IBM, then OSS and PSS and it went on till 5 AM , when we finally came back to sleep.

Woke up around 11 AM. Mails, Slashdot, OSNEWs and bath and then it was time for lunch, slept again after lunch. Overall I only studied chapter 1 of Linear Algebra.

In the evening went to Gym ( I am going in the evening from last two days after a week long struggle of trying to go in morning),

I will again try to do some maths study. Then May be novel again. That all for today.

last sems and hols photographs

I collected the photographs from the Mehdipatnam shops after almost a month.
The image upload link doesnot seem to work. Anyways work is on for a xml based photo album software. I might try to make is plugable and put it in f-spot the choice of Satvik and Kirtisinha for hacking and improving.

Planning to shift here

I had a last post almost a month ago. That time I joined blogger.com to just get a gmail account(people told bloggers are invited by google). I am still in dilema whether to improve my XML/XSL based blog or to start using this one. Many people seems to have started creating blog here, so I guess I will be moving here soon.

By the way I have an update on my Resume. I am now an MS by R student. I will passout in 2006 as MS Computer Vision post graduate(That look cool to me atleast)
by 2005 I will get a B Tech (specialization in Computer Vision) graduate degree.

Now many people are doing MSBR here. I will have the company of some of my Best Friends like Abhishek and Sachin, Nir is planning to join but seems doubtfull.

Probably I may get a PPO from CA, but this time I couln't take the offer as I have decided to go for dual degree course here and think of the
job after one year only.

Created Account on Blogger.com

HI,
I have created this account just to get an Email account. My actual Blog is already posted on my personal Website. http://students.iiit.net/~vardhman/, I will see if i need to bring it here.
